Gnarus Advisors adds environmental engineering expert
ARLINGTON, Va. – Gnarus Advisors LLC announced today that Dr. Neil S. Shifrin, a respected environmental engineering expert, has joined the firm as a director. Shifrin was previously a principal and founder of the environmental consulting firm Gradient.
Shifrin consults on a wide range of environmental engineering topics, including water quality, contaminant fate and transport, hazardous waste site cleanups, and environmental response cost liability and allocation. With his broad and lengthy experience, Dr. Shifrin offers insightful interpretation of environmental conditions and big-picture strategies for achieving balanced solutions.
His experience extends back to the nation's first Superfund projects, such as Love Canal, and includes many complex contamination problems, such as polychlorinated biphenyls in major receiving waters, dioxins in the Great Lakes, trichloroethylene in large aquifers beneath the major cities, and combined sewer overflow pollution of Boston Harbor. Shifrin has extensive experience with DNAPL (principally groundwater contaminants), site investigation, remedy concepts, monitoring programs, property redevelopment, historical waste practices, cost allocation, manufactured gas plants, persistent bioaccumulative and toxic chemicals, solvents, and biological processes.
“Having founded Gradient 25 years ago, the time has come for me to focus more closely on my work with clients and to pursue more vigorously my favorite interests – cost allocation and a new consulting concept I hope to develop that I call Trusted Advisor,” Shifrin said. “With nearly 40 years of experience and with no environmental issue I can’t master, I have hopefully entered an ‘elder’ status of maximum insight, creativity, and effectiveness which I look forward to exploring through my new role at Gnarus Advisors.”
Stephen Sellick, founder and managing director of Gnarus Advisors, welcomed Shifrin to the firm. “I am delighted Neil has chosen to enter this new and exciting phase of his career with our firm,” Sellick said. “Neil and his practice add a whole new element – environmental science – to the existing finance and economics skills and experience Gnarus can offer to its clients.”
