Gnarus Advisors Adds Mary Lyman to Team
ARLINGTON, Va., January 14, 2011. Gnarus Advisors announced today that it has added Mary Lyman to its team and expanded the firm’s operations to include management services for small associations. Ms. Lyman, an attorney with close to three decades’ experience in Washington, provides clients with research, analysis, and other services relating to complex legal and legislative matters.
Ms. Lyman joins Gnarus as a Director. She previously worked at Navigant Consulting, Inc.
A former aide to a House Ways and Means Committee member, Ms. Lyman has been involved for 25 years with tax policy issues including the tax treatment of limited partnerships; exempt organizations; and infrastructure financing, including tax-exempt bonds and capital cost recovery. She provides clients with analysis of state and federal legislation and regulations, as well as legislative drafting, Congressional testimony, fact sheets, and other advocacy material related to policy issues.
Ms. Lyman serves as Executive Director of the National Association of Publicly Traded Partnerships (NAPTP), with whom she has worked since 1985, and is a recognized expert on publicly traded “master” limited partnerships, commonly known as MLPs. Her work for NAPTP includes general management of the association as well as coordination of legislative and regulatory advocacy, maintenance of a website, and public affairs activities including a major annual investor conference. Gnarus Advisors houses NAPTP in its Alexandria, Virginia office and provides the services of Ms. Lyman and other staff.
“I’m excited about the idea of providing NAPTP and other small associations with an inexpensive alternative to maintaining their own facilities and staff,” said Stephen Sellick, founder and managing director of Gnarus Advisors, an analytic and expert services consulting firm, “and Mary will be a valuable asset in our traditional analytical work as well.”
In addition to her tax policy work, Ms. Lyman has worked extensively in the area of mass tort litigation, particularly asbestos, where she has provided defendants, financial institutions, and other clients with research, historical analysis and litigation support; managed claims estimation projects; analyzed and drafted legislative language for both federal and state asbestos reform legislation; and drafted or contributed to affidavits, reports, and testimony for expert witnesses. Her services in these areas will be available to Gnarus’ analytical and litigation clients. Ms. Lyman has authored or co-authored several articles on asbestos litigation and legislative reform.
“I am pleased that NAPTP has found a good home with Gnarus Advisors,” said Lyman, “And I look forward to being able to use my skills and experience to assist Gnarus clients in a variety of areas.”
Ms. Lyman received her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and French from Dickinson College.
